New supernatural thriller novel, Song of the Starling, now available
WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, June 1, 2026 - On Monday, indie publisher Lamplight Universe released Song of the Starling: A Magic City Wonders Novel, the fourth installment in Florida author Taylor Thomas Smythe’s award-winning YA science-fiction/supernatural thriller series. The novel is now available in paperback and ebook.
Read the official synopsis:
It’s 1990 in Miami, and Starla Gordon feels like the only ordinary person in a very extraordinary family. Her mother has supernatural powers. Her aunt does, too. Starla? Not even a hint.
As she starts her senior year at a new school, San Marcos Academy, Starla is determined to stand out—preferably in a way that gets her crush, Gabe, to finally see her. But when eerie noises echo through the halls and students witness apparent supernatural hauntings, Starla and her friends realize they’ve stumbled into something far more frightening than high school drama…
The book can be found on Amazon, or readers can learn more on the Lamplight Universe website.
While the book is the fourth in the series, continuing the story that began with the award-winning series debut Goldie and continued in The Dream Team and Nightmare Array, Song of the Starling features a semi-standalone story that jumps ahead ten years from the previous installment.
In 2023, the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY Awards) named the first installment in the Magic City Wonders series, Goldie, the winner of the gold medal in the Southeast - Best Regional Fiction category. Earlier that year, Goldie received a silver medal in the Florida Book Awards. In 2021, the first installment in Smythe’s seven-book Kingdom of Florida middle-grade fantasy series—The Golden Alligator—was chosen as the winner of a silver medal in the Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Awards and as a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards.
